Second Announcement of the Fourth Summer Workshop in Advanced Research in Applied Mathematics and Scientific Computing 2017 at the School of Mathematical Sciences of Ocean University of China, Qingdao, China

The Fourth Summer Workshop on Advanced Research in Applied Mathematics and Scientific Computing 2017 (ARAMSC-2017) will be held from July 10th, 2017 to August 13th, 2017 (dates subject to change) at the School of Mathematical Sciences of Ocean University of China, Qingdao, China.

Following previous workshops, we will apply state-of-art numerical algorithms for solving nonlinear system of partial differential equations (PDEs) and will review research of current topics in applied mathematics, numerical analysis, parallel computing, computational physics, oceanography, electromagnetics, image processing and optimization. Participants will be tasked to research a problem by studying relevant literature, to implement appropriate state-of-art algorithms in problem solving, and, at the end of the Workshop, to present their research results. During the Workshop, faculty mentors will be available for individual consultations and group discussions will be held often to ensure steady progress in each individual participant’s research. Intellectual collaboration and teamwork is strongly encouraged. The participants will have an ample opportunity to interact with outside experts, who will be invited to give seminars on the current trend in research in the field of applied mathematics.

We are inviting qualified, motivated applicants to apply for the Workshop. We are seeking junior faculty, outstanding graduate students and exceptional undergraduate students who are interested in interdisciplinary research in applied mathematics and scientific computing. Applicants are also invited to submit a research proposal if they have a particular area of research they would like to pursue. Prior experience in high level programming, such as FORTRAN, C and Matlab in the solution of PDEs is preferred. The pace of Workshop is intensive with daily progress briefing and discussions. A full commitment of efforts and time by the participants throughout the Workshop is strongly expected.

If admitted, dormitory accommodation during the Workshop and a stipend for local expenses will be provided to the participants. A limited fund travel support might be provided for those who need it. Please contact the organizer for further information.

Only a limited number of positions are available for qualified applicants. If interested, please submit a CV, transcripts, research proposal if any, and two letters of recommendation by email before May 13th, 2017 for full consideration. Applications received after that date may be considered until positions are filled. Applications should be sent directly to the Chair at mailto:donwaisun@outlook.com?subject=The Fourth Summer Workshop Applications.

If you have any questions regarding the Workshop, please feel free to contact the Workshop organizers. If you like to talk to former participants about their past summer research experiences, you can contact Baoshan Wang ( wbs@stu.ouc.edu.cn ) or Xiao Wen ( wenxiao@stu.ouc.edu.cn ).
